culture crap

On the heels of the New York Times’ rather damning article concerning management at the Chicago Tribune, I took a look at the past week’s arts coverage in the Trib, bearing in mind that October is Chicago Artists Month.

Here are some of the stories featured in that venerable institution’s arts coverage. If you can’t find this section, first go to entertainment, then theater, then the arts.  I'm not going to provide links. Articles included are:

Chinese caves get 21st century facelift
Evocative landscape of sonic warfare
Rare butoh performance by Sankai Juku
Making way for what's coming next
The Joffrey and Sinfonietta join forces
'1306' plus 10 equals 13 hours of celebration

Of course, privileged over the arts coverage are such important stories as:

Sighting: Edward Norton at Cuvee
Kim Kardashian coming to Water Tower Place
'Stone' star Edward Norton kicks off 46th Chicago International Film Festival
Ne-Yo hosting 'Champagne' party at Le Passage
Mary J. Blige appearing at Nordstrom
Sighting: Jennifer Hudson attends Michigan Avenue magazine party

So much for a Newspaper’s enlightening editorial coverage of the arts during Chicago Artists Month. Thanks Trib.
